In the US, more than 50,000 people die every year because of a traumatic brain injury. Incidents like car accidents, contact sports, or a fall can cause this injury. The brain hits the hard skull and bruises. The brain can also swell. In contact sports, one can prevent a cerebral contusion by wearing protective head gear. The helmet should also be essential when riding a things such as bikes, skateboards, motorcycles, etc. When inside a car, make sure to wear a seat belt to decrease the chance for a head injury in case of an accident. An athlete could prevent a traumatic brain injury such as a cerebral contusion by wearing protective gear related to each sport. For example, a football player should always wear his helmet and mouth guard. Unfortunately, protective gear doesn't always guarantee safety but it can decrease the chance for injury.
